Here is the scoop about your Pa. I took Dad to emerg this morning b/c his gut and back end have been bothering him for a bit, actually ever since we left you Leanne. He felt a bit better on Fri. and thought good but Saturday came along and he felt bad again. This morning was the worst so we went to the hospital. He was admitted put on an IV and got morphine for the pain and this afternoon he went to Sturgeon Hosp. in St. Albert for a CT scan. This scan found a hole in his gut or bowel, I'm not sure where, just somewhere inside. Regardless, Dad can't have anything enter his body through his mouth until this hole has repaired itself. So he is on IV. This happened b/c the antibiotic he was on for his last COPD flare up did it. I don't try to understand how things like this happen but they do. Dr. Wepener will see him in the morning and we will know more. It isn't anything extremely serious just a time issue with the hole repairing. Otherwise he is fine, still joking around with nurses.

So, they have been asking for a stool sample and finally Dad did as they requested. This ended up with him and his roommate being put into isolation because it showed Dad has a contagious form of the c diff virus. We were told it happens with people who are on antibiotics a lot. Now we have to gown and glove up before entering the room and washing our hands with soap and water upon leaving so as not to spread the virus. All the symptoms that it says when I googled it is what Dad has. And I know you girls are going to google it too and think the worst right away but don't. I don't want to make you girls think the worst or to worry unnecessarily but I know distance is hard to handle at times like this. Those of us here take it in stride. He is in the best hands around, Gods, and worry won't make any difference. Yes he might have to stay in the hospital for a while, but again we will take one day at a time and pray. Love you all and will give another update tomorrow.
So today I get to the hospital and Dad had breakfast! Liquid food! Yes he was allowed to have liquids today. The X-ray looked good, the bowel hole is small and has no abscess. So it is looking better. Probably has to stay in for a few days yet but Dad's gut does still hurt. And you know what? They were giving him a stool softener pill! He doesn't need that so the nurse told him not to take it anymore.

An x ray was done today again. Another test for the c diff is being done too. Dr. doesn't like how hard Dad's gut is. Dad had lots of visitors this afternoon. Lots of snow is forecast overnight and tomorrow (4-6") so who knows if I can visit him tomorrow.
Another step forward. No more IV for Dad. He is also on solid food again. He does still test positive for the virus so no going home yet. Maybe Sunday.
